At the beginning of the video it shows that artist Marina Abramovic was constantly brushing her hair as she kept saying artist must be beautiful. I think its a powerful message because in her mind beauty was to look pretty and neat. just like how most people in society see beauty in people. I think that in this video its trying to describe that beauty isn’t in just a couple basic forms. It’s how the viewers interprets it and takes a message from it. A quote in the movie, “Art is beautiful, when it allows us to realize truths about ourselves.” I think the message is trying to say that different people find different kinds of beauty or connections with different art or people.
She also explained in the video about how even in history there were different interpretations of art. To me what I feel closest to is what I find beautiful. If there is art or a person that knows or has some aspects of my culture then I am more likely to be attracted to it. How a piece of art is assembled is an important way the piece is displayed. another quote in the movie, “To be beautiful, a living creature, and every whole made up of parts, must…present a certain order In its arrangements of parts.” again everyone sees differently from each other so what can only one person say is truly beautiful? beauty is in everything you just have to look for it.
For this unit I am thinking about making a video. I want to make something similar to what we did in unit 2 and 3 and use the human body and environment to create a meaning of my surrounding. I want to have some sort of performance in there like dancing ballet different locations. I like the idea of having the audience involved in performance pieces. I think one location I can use is the city and then go somewhere completely different like the mountains and do the exact same thing. I will need a camera or just my phone as well to record myself as I perform. I can also have someone else. Ill need my car for transportation and my laptop in oder to edit the videos. I also like how we used a lot of editing and photoshop in unit one and want to add some cool effects to it if my video could use more work. I want to be exploring the idea of what the people around me will think. If I were to have my friend do a ballet dance in the city some people might just walk by or take pictures. If I did it on a hiking trail then people will start to think differently. These photos are by photographer Jordan Matter who photographs different types of dancers in different locations.

“Making Art” by Terry Berrett”
Reading this chapter of the book showed me some new ideas on installation art. I never knew that most of the art ive grown up seeing around me was installed for a temporary time and that it had great meaning. In most art forms here, color and unique shapes are important. Everything has a meaning to it and the audience can sometimes interact with it. In the chapter it explains, “ When you thoughtfully make a work of art or a designed object using subject matter, medium, form, and contexts, you will create meaningful objects (p.20).”
One work that really caught my attention was the piece done by Sarah Sze called Still Life with Flowers. Her work looks like there is a bunch of random objects hanging from the ceiling and it looks messy too. But the closer you get, or the more you look at it, it becomes something new. Also every audience member sees something different that they interpret with. It is explained in the chapter that her use of color makes the piece unique. She used the same color for one of her objects and had that same color as her background. Instead of the colors blending in, they looked different from each other. When I look at the piece I kind of see a little baby mobile. But the more I look, I see so many photos and leaves and shapes that work together to come to a unique shape themselves as a whole.
