“Making Art” by Terry Berrett”
Reading this chapter of the book showed me some new ideas on installation art. I never knew that most of the art ive grown up seeing around me was installed for a temporary time and that it had great meaning. In most art forms here, color and unique shapes are important. Everything has a meaning to it and the audience can sometimes interact with it. In the chapter it explains, “ When you thoughtfully make a work of art or a designed object using subject matter, medium, form, and contexts, you will create meaningful objects (p.20).”
One work that really caught my attention was the piece done by Sarah Sze called Still Life with Flowers. Her work looks like there is a bunch of random objects hanging from the ceiling and it looks messy too. But the closer you get, or the more you look at it, it becomes something new. Also every audience member sees something different that they interpret with. It is explained in the chapter that her use of color makes the piece unique. She used the same color for one of her objects and had that same color as her background. Instead of the colors blending in, they looked different from each other. When I look at the piece I kind of see a little baby mobile. But the more I look, I see so many photos and leaves and shapes that work together to come to a unique shape themselves as a whole.
