Exercise #2 Mind Map
Turning Old Car into Bird Cage
- Public Space– car can be parked outside of a museum or a parking lot in the city where there will be a lot of people and tourists to enjoy watching the piece.
- Quality of Light– In order for people to see this, it will have to be done outside and during the day time.
- Materials– I will need a car I don’t mind making a huge mess in, I will need parts of a bird cage to install in the car and it needs to come out of the car as well for people to see the birds, I will need my pet birds, bird food, little branches for the birds to sit on, and some dry grass for the bottom of the cage.
- Interact with space– This will interact with the city space because there aren’t a lot of pretty birds in the city for people to see. I will be bringing a pretty and small part of nature into the city.
- Context– The context of this is for the busy people of the city to see birds that don’t belong in the city. It’ll make them think of their surroundings a little or just enjoy a nice view other than buildings and cars.
- Audience– The audience of this is going to the people around in the city parking lots. People who are not used to seeing birds other than pigeons everyday.
- Responding to the space– The city is a busy and noisy place, so the birds can sing along to the noise and add more sound to the existing ones with nicer sounds. The people around will be able to notice something new as they walk by.
- Duration of exhibit– This projects won’t last very long. The birds need to go back to their own calm environment by the end of the day and I can’t stand outside all day. If I wanted to continue this i would have to look for new places and keep setting it up over and over and buying more food supplies for the birds.
- Audience Encounter- The people who will notice this car bird cage will come up and feed the birds. I’ll have bird seeds to hand out and the audience can start their day with feeding little birds and hearing them sing. In a way its a stress relief to see something like this in a busy city life.
- Practicality– It functions by people coming up to the bird cage that’s literally sticking out of the car and feed the birds. It’ll be like a little mini petting zoo in the middle of the city.
